In this episode we go a little off script in a very raw conversation with Yvette Darsaklis. Running has been an on and off activity in Yvette’s life as she’s juggled 5 kids, working as a nurse, weight issues and constant negative thoughts in her head! Although she has a real love/hate relationship with running, many of her happiest memories are when the whole family has come together to run in an event.
This episode touches on many sensitive topics for most of us (especially mums who run) and I applaud Yvette for being vulnerable enough to share whats going on for her in a very real way.
Yvette’s Tips - Start slow so you can get through the breathing “wall”, at which point you will be able to regulate your breathing. When you first get started aim for 10 minutes of running.

In this episode of the podcast we hear from Bianca White. Bianca grew up in a very sporty family - they all participate in individual sports or team sports together. She is currently at university finishing up a Masters in Physiotherapy, so movement is a massive part of her life.
One of Bianca’s favourite sports atm is AFL - she plays women AFL and she works as a sports trainer for a football team.
She can’t remember a time when she wasn’t running or around running. The main benefit Bianca gets from running is that she feels good - without running in her life she doesn’t think she’d be as happy as she is..
Bianca’s Tips - Get started, have a go, do it with friends, don’t stop and don’t start too hard.

In this episode of the podcast we talk to Tony Darsaklis. Tony is a busy father of 5 who loves running almost as much as his AFL club, the West Coast Eagles! He came back to running as an adult to deal with back issues caused by a lot of sitting while he was pursuing his accountancy career… Since then running has been a constant in his and his families lives. As Tony says, its now a lifestyle choice - one that he chooses!
Tony’s Tips - Take time to build a base/foundation - you can get faster later, and when you start running longer distances learn how to fuel your body properly to get you to the finish line.

In this episode of the podcast we hear from Aaron Young who only started “running” a couple of years ago while using Triathlons as a path back to fitness after a long time out of sport with an ACL injury. As a young person Aaron enjoyed and achieved success in cricket and AFL. Running was not something he thought he was good at... Thats all changed. This last weekend he came second in Birdy’s Backyard behind previous podcast guest, Phil Gore (episode 116), covering approx. 356 km (53 laps of 6.7k - thats 53 hours)!
