In this episode of the podcast, Ultra Series’ very own Shaun Kaesler shares his massive passion for ultra trail events! Listening to Shaun its difficult to not get caught up in that passion and run out to sign up for an ultra immediately :)
Helping people to achieve their ultra trail running goals, by providing a platform for them to do just that, is what really drives Shaun to do what he does! He has seen what an amazing effect completing an ultra event can have on your life! And as he said a number of times in the podcast - almost anyone can do it if they put their mind to it. In fact many of the events Shaun runs have very generous close off times to help as many people as possible to cross the line!
Personally running has given Shaun space to be with his millions of thoughts and process them in a healthy way.

Shaun’s Tips for running an ultra - Before you run an ultra, run regular ParkRuns and volunteer at ultra events. Don’t go into your first ultra to race it, instead go into it to enjoy it. Also consider a coach if you want to give it a real crack.

In this episode of the podcast energetic Sarah Menzie shares her running journey! When she was 20 she realised that she needed to do something to de-stress from work and remembered how much she loved to run at school. Although she was quite self-conscious about it in the beginning, she soon took it on as a permanent part of her life.
Sarah has gone on to be quite a speedy runner and often finds her spare time consumed with running training or running events! She also meet her partner, Caine through running and many of her friends. Its fair to say that running is a massive part of her life.
Sarah’s Tips - Start small and keep it enjoyable. Find an event that’ll keep you motivated.

In this episode Kylee Davie shares her inspiring journey with daughter Veronika. 14 years ago Veronika was born with a number of conditions, including downs syndrome and cerebral palsy, which propelled Kylee into a carers role.
After a shoulder injury it became apparent that in order to help Veronika, Kylee would need to start taking care of herself physically (as well as mentally)! Kylee found running in 2018 as a result of Veronika encouraging her mum to “go faster” when pushing her in their regular wheelchair walks (while she was receiving from hip surgery).
Since then Kylee and Veronica have become regular participants in ParkRun and various fun runs around Tassie - making it a wonderful activity they can share.
Running helps Kylee stay mentally alert and physically strong as well as providing her time to clear her head. For Veronica it provides an opportunity to be involved, to get outside and to enjoy an activity with her mum.
On top of being Veronika’s carer Kylee is also mum to two boys and is studying to be a primary school teacher - think about that next time you tell yourself you don’t have time to go for a run :)
