In this episode of the podcast Damon Sherriff and I chat about his journey with running while drinking coffee out the back of a local cafe (the Cabin in Exeter). It was a fabulous environment although the audio could be better!
Damon gets real with us about his struggles with mental health over the years and just how important being able to go for a run has been for him…
Mind you running is not Damon’s only hobby - in our chat he mentions some of his other hobbies including bike ridding, fishing, bird keeping (cockatoos and macaws), showing chickens and pigeons and fish taxidermy..
On top of all that he is also a personal trainer :)
Damon’s Tips - Take it slow, it won’t happen overnight.

In this podcast Casey Mainsbridge shares his journey with running and exercise in general. For as long as he can remember he has loved the physical benefits of exercise but they’ve become secondary to the mental and emotional shift he gets from doing them. He finds it great thinking time and a distraction from what ever life is throwing at you.
For almost 20 years Casey has been a University lecturer teaching our future PE (Health and physical education) teachers as well as completing a Phd on what happens when people sitting at work were given a passive prompt to stand up and move. One of the things that this experiment highlighted was that behaviour change is hard, it takes time and people need to make a conscience choice, however over time, with consistent exposure, things can become habitual (hopefully positive things).. So Casey is now a Dr :)
Casey has taken this path in life because he wants to make a positive difference to the lives of everyone he comes into contact with!
This episode is full of insights from someone who has spent all his life to this point studying and practicing movement and the human body :)
Casey’s Tips - Start by going for a walk and doing small bursts of jogging, soft ground/grass is good, commit to “your why”, you want to start running. And remember “thinking about something is often harder than doing it..” Casey Mainsbridge

In this episode of the podcast Josh Harris shares his running journey from a promising primary school kid to representing Australia! As a 10/11 year old Josh found that not only did he love running he was actually pretty good at it. At 32 he still loves running and chasing PB’s, although while he’s recovering from an injury he’s also found he’s pretty good at Zwift bike riding!
On top of running and Zwift training, Josh is also a relief teacher for a number of local schools. He finds the part-time nature of relief teaching a perfect compliment to his athletic endeavours - it gives him time to teach and time to train.
On top of representing Australia in running multiple times (including the World Championship Marathon), Josh also has a university degree in Exercise Science and Teaching. He uses all of this experience and knowledge as a run coach at https://www.run2pb.co/ …
Josh’s Tips - Find YOUR enjoyment in running, if you’re a beginner don’t run to hard (find your conversational/low heart rate pace), running is very enjoyable when you’re in control and taking it easy, putting time in at a low intensity is what will get you fit.
