In this episode we hear from Holly Ranson the “ever ready” bunny :) Since she was a child Holly has been pursuing one physical endeavour or another - from sailing to triathlon to cycling and running! No matter which sport she was involved in, she excelled. One of Holly’s aims is to be a full-time professional athlete in the future.
Staying still is not in Hollys’s vocabulary, I get tired just hearing all the things she fits into her day! On top of her various sports, she is also a dietician, a professional fire fighter and is currently studying her masters (and has been a journalist).
Ultra trail running is Holly’s focus atm. She’s set herself some challenging goals with backyard ultras and 100k trail events as she explores the limits of her body!

In this episode we hear from legendary Tassie trail runner, David Bailey. A number of previous guests have referred David to the podcast because he’s such a genuine, all round lovely bloke full of running wisdom. After a motor cycle accident when he was a teenager David was left with a lymphatic condition that caused one leg to be larger than the other. Running helped reduce the swelling in the leg and after 5 or so years, although still a bit of a mystery, the condition receded! You could say running saved his life :) Since this time running has become a way of life for David - most lunch times you can find him escaping the confines of his lawyers office and exploring the foot hills of Mt Kunanyi.
David is one of Tassie’s best trail runners and has a number of personal running goals in his sights. He loves to stay as fit as possible so he can jump into events as they come up, rather than training for one big event.
Apart from running David is also a husband, a lawyer, running coach and an Island boy (he grew up on Flinders Island :) ).
David’s Tips - Ask yourself “why do you want to run?”, then implementing the next steps will be clearer, do some reading about running (to get some foundations), talk to more experienced people, join a running group and become educated in running. Find out what works for you and make sure your goals are realistic so that you’ll enjoy it.

In this episode Lisa Betts from Devon in the UK shares how she started running a couple of years ago!
She started running to support her decision to give up smoking! And its worked - she is totally hooked on running and has no plans to give up any time soon.
She is another Couch to 5k success story :)
One of the most important benefits running has given her life is her health - it gives her the all important “me” time thats vital for our mental health plus its helping her quit smoking and avoid type 2 diabetes which runs in the family…

In this episode we hear from local running legend, Aub Henricks. He has been running since he was at kid at school and can’t imagine his life without it. Even when he’s been injured, its the knowledge that he’ll be able to get back into running as soon as he’s healed, that keeps him going!
When his kids where young, Aub joined a local athletics club with them and took on a coaching role for the distance kids! This is one of his fondest running memories - helping these kids achieve their running goals..
Aub runs long distance races on the road and on the trail - and he really loves a challenge. Although he’s currently recovering from shoulder surgery, he has plenty of big running goals to look forward to.
Aub’s Tips - Start with a walk and little jogs - one telephone pole to the next then walk for a few. Listen to your body.

On the episode of the podcast Adele Smith all the way from the UK, shares her running journey.
Adele is a teacher in the North West of England (near Manchester) and started running a couple of years ago as a way to raise funds for medical treatment for a rescue dog from Romania!
She used the Couch to 5k app to get her started and up to the 5k distance!
Spoiler alert - she raised the money and is now a running convert :)
Not only did the dog get the treatment Adele found she had less anxiety and she lost weight - win win!
I loved chatting to Adele, not just because of her awesome accent but also because of her infectious enthusiasm for running :)

Adele’s Tips - if you’ve never run try the Couch to 5k, if you’ve run a bit and coming back to it start at week 3 or 4, do what feels right for your body, make sure you have the right equipment, if something feels wrong STOP.
