In this episode, we're on a joy run with the one and only Peter Wheatley! Imagine turning 60 and celebrating by running a marathon every day for 30 days! Sounds crazy? Not for Peter. This super-coach, who laces up his sneakers for fun, fitness, and a fair bit of problem-solving, didn't even start running until later in life!
Being an advocate for social justice, Peter doesn't just run for the joy or the health benefits, oh no! He's sprinting towards making a difference too, pushing for more job opportunities for people with disabilities. Talk about running with a purpose!
But what keeps him hitting the pavement day in, day out? It's all about saying "Yeah!" to being the best you can be while kicking negativity to the curb. So tune in, as Peter shares his journey of marathons, mindfulness, and making a difference! Remember, for Peter, running isn't just a sport, it's a high-energy, fun-loving, problem-solving, community-building lifestyle. And believe us, his enthusiasm is as contagious as his passion for running!
Apart from being Ultraman (age group 60-65) World Champ I am an accredited Triathlon coach and Health Coach..
On another note I would strongly recommend people doing an adult ed course on Marathon running ( and you setting it up! – I have the resources!)

Running tips from Peter -
1. Understand your "why": Know why you want to start running. Is it for health, for fun, or for something else?
2. Assess your time and commitments: Consider if you have enough time in your day for running. When you say yes to running, remember you are saying no to something else. Make sure that this "no" is acceptable within your life's commitments.
3. Consider the implications on your family life: As running can be a solitary pursuit, be sure to discuss with your family and ensure that your commitment to running aligns with your family's needs and expectations.
4. Understand what you are giving up: Be clear about what you might be sacrificing to make time for running, and ensure that it is a trade-off you are willing to make.
5. Engage in mindful running: Running can be an opportunity for self-improvement and self-awareness. Make the choice to be the best version of yourself.
6. Be aware of your food and drink intake: Regular intervals for food and drink, like in an endurance race, can be beneficial. It's important to keep your energy levels up while running.

In this engaging episode of Fit My Fit Buddy, they interview Andrew Davies, a professional from the intensive care field who hails from Melbourne. Andrew shares his passion for running and the mindful aspects of this activity. Interestingly, he reveals that he didn't always love running.
Andrew embarked on this journey as a means to stay fit, and over time, he fell in love with the practice. His devotion to running goes beyond the physical benefits as he believes it has made him a better doctor. He emphasizes how his running routine empowers him to inspire his patients to lead healthier lives.
Despite concerns from family members about the implications of his running activities on his health, Andrew continues to run for the sheer joy and satisfaction it brings him. He views running as a personal activity that provides him with much-needed 'me' time.
This episode digs deep into the world of a person who balances a demanding professional life with a commitment to personal health and wellness through running. It’s a great listen for those seeking motivation to maintain their own fitness journey regardless of the challenges they face.

Running tips from Andrew -
1. Incorporate trail running: Andrew mentions that trail running is more forgiving for the body due to its uneven surfaces and varied inclines. It also removes the pressure of achieving specific times, as every trail is different.
2. Understand your running style: Andrew stresses the importance of understanding and improving your running style to prevent injuries. He mentions a training program that helped him transition from a heel strike to a forefoot strike, and increase his steps per minute from 160 to 180.
3. Engage in strength training: Improving muscle strength, specifically in the glutes and hamstrings, can change your running profile and minimise injuries.
4. Maintain a healthy balance: While Andrew acknowledges his possible over-focus on running, he also emphasises the need for balance between running and other aspects of life. Recognising the potential for over-training and ensuring that running gives back as much as you put into it is crucial.
5. Run for yourself: Regardless of the opinions and comments of others, Andrew underscores the importance of running for personal satisfaction and well-being.

Episode 244 - Running Beyond Limits: A Chat with Luke Pryor
Tuesday Oct 17, 2023
Tuesday Oct 17, 2023
In this episode, they have a lively chat with Luke Pryor, clinical psychologist and a dedicated runner who shares his fascinating journey with running. Luke started running to overcome personal challenges, particularly as a form of escape from his past struggles with alcohol. Now, running has become an integral part of his life, acting as a therapeutic outlet and a way to challenge himself, even making it a daily habit by running at least two kilometers every day for over a year.
Luke shares his insights on why running is not just a physical sport, but also a mental game where consistency, self-discipline, and resilience play crucial parts. He highlights how running helps him stay focused, disciplined, and gives him a sense of achievement. He also discusses the growth of ultra-distance running and how it has become a means for people to seek challenges and step out of their comfort zones.
Moreover, Luke encourages listeners to try running, to go beyond their boundaries, and to see for themselves the transformative effects it can bring. Regardless of whether you're a novice or an experienced runner, Luke's inspiring story and insights on running are sure to motivate, inspire, and allow you to see running in a new light.

Running tips from Luke -
1. Always have your running gear with you, regardless of where you are headed. This will allow you to seize any opportunity to fit in a run when you get a chance.
2. Connect with your bigger motivations, especially if you're training for a big race. Draw up a handwritten calendar and mark the days to stay motivated and on track.
3. Don't complicate running. Keep it simple. You don't need the latest gear or the best running vest.
4. Don't let the lack of fancy running gear be a barrier for you to go for a run. If even a 30-second run is what you can manage, then do it and call yourself a runner.

In this captivating episode, we delve into the intriguing journey of ultra runner Nick Montgomery. Discover how he found his way into the world of running and what continues to motivate him.
We learn that Nick's running journey began with a love for Alpine skiing, which eventually led him to cross-country skiing and trail running. His passion for these sports ignited a deep interest in endurance running.
Nick shares valuable advice for beginners, emphasising the importance of starting small and running at a comfortable pace. He encourages individuals to find joy in the process rather than fixating on speed. Exploring the benefits of running on softer surfaces and taking it slow, he emphasises the gradual building of endurance.
As we listen, we delve into the mental challenges Nick faces during long distance races. We discover how he overcomes fatigue and even moments of falling asleep while running. The concept of napping during races is explored, shedding light on its impact on performance.
Throughout the episode, we gain insights into why Nick continues to run. Whether it's the thrill of competition, the opportunity to explore beautiful trails, or the convenience of fitting running into his daily life, his passion for the sport shines through.
By the end of this inspiring conversation, we are motivated to lace up our shoes and hit the trails, embracing the joy and fulfilment that running can bring to our own lives. Join us on this incredible journey and discover the power of running for yourself.
Running tips from Nick -
1. Start small and start slow: Nick advises beginners to not push themselves too hard and to gradually increase their running distance and pace.
2. Focus on relaxation: Nick suggests that runners should aim to be relaxed while running and be able to hold a conversation. If necessary, it's perfectly fine to take walking breaks.
3. Just start running: Nick emphasises the importance of simply starting to run, even if it's not a perfect or lengthy run. Any amount of running is better than nothing.
4. Explore different surfaces: While running on footpaths is common, Nick suggests trying out softer and rougher surfaces, such as trails, which can provide a more pleasant running experience.
5. Find opportunities to run: Nick advises runners to incorporate running into their daily routines, such as running to work or running errands on foot. Making running a part of everyday life helps to fit it in.
6. Be flexible: Nick encourages runners to be adaptable and not get too fixated on specific running goals or routes. Any running is better than none, and being flexible allows for more opportunities to run.
7. Enjoy the process: Nick emphasises finding joy in running and not focusing solely on achieving certain targets or times. Running should be a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.
