In our latest episode, we're back with Bronte Smith for her second training check-in as she prepares for the 'Gone Nuts' Ultra Adventure Run. Bronte offers an honest and upbeat update on her progress, sharing the highs and lows of her training journey.
Despite the holiday season, Bronte successfully managed her training around Christmas and New Year's, demonstrating her commitment and adaptability. She highlights improvements in her performance, including achieving a new personal best in a recent Park Run and almost hitting another in a 10k time trial. This progress is a source of encouragement and motivation for her.
Bronte's training included a brief trip to Perth, where she experienced running in warmer weather. She enjoyed the change of scenery, turning her runs into explorative adventures in new suburbs. This adaptability to different conditions is a key aspect of her training.
She also discusses the importance of proper nutrition and hydration during her runs, experimenting with various gels and other recommendations to find the best options for her body. Additionally, Bronte has started incorporating night runs into her routine, preparing for the night segment of the race. These runs have been a new and enjoyable experience, though challenging in different lighting conditions.

In this follow-up episode, we reconnect with Garry Wood as he continues his training journey for the 'Gone Nuts' Ultra Adventure Run. Garry provides an update on his progress and how he is overcoming recent challenges.
Garry's training had a setback due to stitches in his left thigh, which led to an infection and hindered his progress for a while. However, he's back on track, running distances up to 20 kilometres, demonstrating his resilience and commitment to the race.
He discusses the physical toll of long runs, noting that he needs a day or two to recover, but he remains hopeful that his body will adjust to the increasing demands. Garry emphasises the importance of pacing and listening to his body, especially as he gets closer to race day.
