Join us in this episode as we catch up with Sharon Gunton for her second training check-in for the 'Gone Nuts' Ultra Adventure Run. Sharon shares the latest developments in her training journey, offering insights into how she's balancing the demands of preparation with other aspects of her life.
Sharon recounts her recent cruise trip, highlighting the unique challenges of maintaining a training regime while on vacation. Despite these challenges, she managed to stay active, incorporating gym workouts and exploring opportunities for physical activity on the islands she visited. This adaptability underscores the importance of flexibility in training schedules.
During her runs in new environments, Sharon faced the heat and humidity, which were significantly different from her usual training conditions. These experiences provided valuable lessons in adapting to varying climates and terrains, crucial for ultra-marathon preparations.
Sharon also delves into the mental aspects of her training, discussing how she deals with the psychological challenges of long-distance running. She emphasises the importance of mental resilience and the ability to push through tough moments during both training and the upcoming race.
As the race day approaches, Sharon shares her plans for increasing her training intensity, including longer runs and back-to-back sessions. She also intends to incorporate night runs to prepare for the race's nocturnal segments, highlighting the comprehensive nature of her training plan.
