In this episode of the podcast Kate Hiney shares her journey to becoming a runner, involving her family in her routine, and the importance of running for mental health.
Kate grew up in a sporty family that encouraged physical activity, as a result sport of some sort has always been a part of her life. After back packing/scuba diving her way around the world for a few years, Kate (originally from the UK) eventually settled in Australia and now lives in Tasmania with her partner and twin girls.
Running is so much a part of who she is that when she doesn’t get to lace up her shoes for a day or two she gets a feeling of unrest, like something isn’t quite right. Running helps her be more productive in her work and gives her the patience and energy needed for her 2 year old twin girls 🙂
On top of being a mum of twins, Kate works in the mental health/disability sector and is studying to be a nurse. Rather than being another thing to do, running helps her fit all these things into her life. We agreed that “running should be prescribed by doctors”. :)
Kate’s Tips - get a good pair of shoes, give it a crack, don’t give up in the first K, run/walk is a good strategy, find a group to run with.
